Please excuse me!
So last I updated you was Aug 18th 2008......Sheesh 6 months ago! I feel so bad. Well I guess this will be a long update to make up for the 6 month absence.
Well it turns out that I had my first sono and it showed ONE healthy baby! There was a good heart beat but baby was too small to measure to get accurate dates. So I was sent back in 2 weeks later to have another sono to get my EDD (due date). According to that sono and my dates I had calculated, my EDD was April, 18th 2009! This was sorta exciting because this was the day that my daughter was born. Although I knew I would never make that date, it was nice to have it tied to this PG.
So as the weeks went by I was put on all the nausea meds there are. My morning sickness would eventually break through the meds or I would get panic attacks from taking them for so long. I started to have ligament pains at 12.5 weeks and had a sono to make sure I hadnt had a cyst rupture. That scan showed all was fine and when they did the check on the gender (even though it was really early) we got a really nice shot of a penis. So when she told me BOY I just couldnt wrap my head around the thought that I really had a boy growing inside me. I had felt from early on that it was a GIRL!
So for weeks we went around saying there was huge chance it was a boy and picking out boy names. We came up with Micah. Never really settled on a middle name though. James was in the running though.
So as my PG progressed I got bigger and bigger really fast. I started to measure ahead by 4-6 weeks. That is enough to scare you into thinking they missed a twin! So I was looking forward to my 17.5 week scan. That scan showed again, 1 healthy baby and this time we got to see a very, very , very active baby. It took 2 techs and 2 hours to get all the measurements. But finally the baby showed the goods for one more time and this time my gut feelings were put to rest. The scan showed that I was indeed PG with a very active GIRL after all.
We were so happy to have been told that we had a girl. That meant no circumcision to go through and also that I got to use all the cute girl clothes I had saved from my daughter. Also, it sorta explained why I had been so sick...I guess I tend to get really sick when I carry girls. So it didnt take us long to pick out her name...we quickly had decided that her name would be a southern belle name. We chose Scarlett Rose! Yes, we are having our daughters share middle names. So we will have a Savannah and a Scarlett Rose!
So jump ahead to 22 weeks and I started to feel weird and called to be seen ASAP. I was sent to L&D from the OB office because I had high B/P and protein in my urine. Turned out to be nothing though. Seems I had an infection that I was fighting that caused the symptoms of pregnancy induced hypertension. After I got hooked up an monitored I was deemed healthy and sent home. I was given something for nausea and also some Ambien to help me sleep. (I hadnt slept in 4 days.....part of the reason for the high B/P too.) They started at this time to do fFN test on me to see if I was going to go into labor within 2 weeks. All the test came out negative each time they were done.
So I continue on in my PG and all was fine till I reached about 28 weeks. This is when I started having contractions. At 29 weeks I had been put on bedrest because I was having lots of contractions with pressure. I was checked at triage in the hospital and found to be closed and not in active labor. I went into L&D again at 30 weeks and this time was having a very irritable uterus. 2 contractions a minute. My back acked and I just wanted it to stop. They came in to start an IV to see if that would knock out the CTX but it did nothing to change them. They gave me some pain meds for my back and applied some heat to it. When I was checked this time I was found to be 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. And when checked 2 hours later was still the same so I was allowed to go home.
I followed up with my OB later that week and was still the same 1cm and 50%. She had the thought that maybe I was getting anxiety issues that were throwing off hormones and starting the CTX. So she Rxed me some anxiety meds. I was apprehensive of taking them but decided to try them. After the first pill there was a night and day difference. All the little CTX STOPPED! So it has now been almost 3 weeks since I have started to anxiety meds and they have gotten me this far in my PG. I am 33 weeks today and have the normal Braxton Hicks CTX that come about 3-4 an hour. I do feel that my body is slowly gearing up for labor even though I am taking the meds. So when I wean off this anxiety med I think that it wont be long. I am trying to hold her in till around the 36th week if I can.
I will try to update on a more regular basis.....Esp as stuff starts to happen. :) -Terra
